ABOUT ME
Who I am and my philosophy
I've loved the outdoors since I was a kid. My parents exposed me to national parks and trails, and I spent countless hours exploring local creeks and woods in my hometown of Charlottesville, Virginia. I discovered mountain running in 1993 in my current home of Phoenix, Arizona. I did my first 1/2 marathon in 1998 and my first ultramarathon in 2000. I started training using the Maffetone Method of low heart rate training (MAF) in 2003. My philosophy on health and athletics has grown and adapted over the decades. I believe that with sound training and an open mind for learning, athletes can pursue their limits and stay healthy at the same time. As I retire and transition away from my full time career as a college Spanish professor, I am obtaining my RRCA coaching certificate and joining the team on The Personal Best Running Club. I look forward to working with athletes over 40 to help them to be healthy, strong and athletic for the duration of their lifetimes.
